UAE reported one case of Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)
On 31 December 2019, Cases of pneumonia of unknown etiology (unknown cause) detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China, is notified
According to media reports, a market in Wuhan was closed on 1 January 2020 for environmental sanitation and disinfection.
As of 3 January 2020, China has reported a total of 44 patients with pneumonia of unknown etiology.
On 9 and 13 January 2020, UAE reported an additional two (2) laboratory-confirmed cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
On 13 January 2020, Thailand reported the first imported case of lab-confirmed novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
Japan informed of a confirmed case of a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in a person who travelled to Wuhan, China. This is the second confirmed case of 2019-nCoV that has been detected outside of China, following Thailand.
Considering global travel patterns, additional cases in other countries are likely, WHO has added.
On 15 January 2020, Japan reported another such imported case of laboratory-confirmed 2019-novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, who has had a close relationship with another, in Wuhan.
On 20 January 2020, Republic of Korea reported the first case of novel coronavirus in the Republic of Korea. The case is a 35-year-old female, Chinese national, residing in Wuhan, Hubei province in China.
From 1 December 2019 through 31 January 2020, Saudi Arabia has reported 19 additional cases of MERS-CoV infection, including 8 associated deaths.
From 2012 until 31 January 2020, the total number of laboratory-confirmed MERS-CoV infection cases reported globally to WHO is 2519 with 866 associated deaths.
On 18 February 2020, Qatar reported one laboratory-confirmed case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus infection (MERS-CoV) to WHO.
Since 2012, including this case, Qatar has reported 23 human cases of MERS-CoV.
From October 2012 until 5 March 2020, the total number of laboratory-confirmed MERS-CoV infection cases reported globally to WHO is 2521 with 866 associated deaths.
